You don’t have to be afraid anymore | Unwrapping the Presence, Receiving the Gift (Jim Shelburne)

A recurring message of scripture though the stories of Advent is this: “Don’t be afraid!” It seems to always be the first word from God’s messengers, and with good reason! But fear is such an ever-present reality in our lives, isn’t it? In a positive way our fear can keep us alive, when we are afraid of the right things. And we all know that our fears can keep us awake at night. But we may not realize that the worst side-effect of fear is that it can easily keep us from living the lives God wants us to. Before we put away all the lights of Christmas, let’s be reminded of why God says so often in scripture: “You don’t have to be afraid anymore!”
