About Us
Our Values
We love God and others
Matthew 22:36-40 – “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?” Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
We believe in being real and true to who God has created us to be, for his glory.
Ephesians 2:10 - “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Ephesians 4:22-24 - “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Because all people matter to God, all people matter to us. We want everyone to feel loved and welcome.
Genesis 1:27 - “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”
John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Scripture is the foundation for truth. We are committed to learning, understanding, obeying and teaching it.
II Timothy 3:16-17 - “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
II Timothy 4:2 - “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.”
What We Believe
Although we as believers never desire to be bound legalistically to man-made laws and/or traditions—which exist in abundance—we do seek to understand and obey God’s laws as made clear to us in Scripture. These teachings or doctrines may generate a lot of discussion in different circles, but our obedience to them is not an option. While the following list may not be exclusive, it does represent areas where people often seek clarification or maybe experience confusion. In trying to keep our focus biblically, at WACC we consider these main things:
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three distinct personalities: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are equal and are one as God. This "Trinity" may be understood as "one being three persons" and is what we mean when we say "God."
Genesis. 1.1-2.25; Deuteronomy 6.4; 2 Corinthians 13.14;
Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born of the virgin Mary. He is co-equal with the Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He experienced bodily resurrection from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. Through His death-and-resurrection Satan and his evil kingdom have been defeated, we have been reconciled to God, and we have received forgiveness for sin. He ascended to Heaven and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
John 1.1-2, 4; Luke 1.35; Colossians 1.15-20
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gifts and empowers every believer when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.
John 14.16-17, 16.8, 13; Acts 1.8; 1 Corinthians 3.16; 6.19-20
Humans are made in the image of God, to be like Him in character. Humanity is the supreme object of God’s creation and therefore should be viewed with dignity and worth. We were entrusted with caring for and stewarding the earth and its resources. We recognize the fallen state of humanity due to the sin of Adam and Eve, resulting in a broken relationship with God and a propensity towards sin and evil. I believe that all humanity has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and that sin leads to death. I acknowledge that humanity's sin has separated us from God and that we cannot save ourselves or restore our relationship with God through our efforts.
Genesis 1.26-27; Romans 3.22-23, 5.12
Salvation is God’s gift of grace to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life is a gift that comes when a person receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith; it is sealed by baptism and confirmed by a consistent lifestyle.
John 3.16; Ephesians 2.8-9; Romans 3.23-24, 6.24
We believe in the resurrection of the dead, both of the righteous and the unrighteous, and in the final judgment of all people. Those who have received the gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ will enjoy eternal life with Him, while those who have rejected Him will suffer eternal separation from God.
John 14.3; 1 Thessalonians 4.16; Hebrews 9.27-28; Revelation 1.7, 20.4
Marriage is and has always been the union of one man and one woman; it is a spiritual and covenantal union that precedes and supersedes any governmental structure or definition for marriage. Therefore, we will not recognize same-sex "marriages" and our church and pastors will not bless, host, or perform same-sex ceremonies.
Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:5
The Bible is God’s inspired word for us. It was written by human authors over thousands of years and miles, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. It is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error, and it is complete.
2 Timothy 3.16-17; 2 Peter 1.20-21; Matthew 5.18; John 16.12-13; Psalm 119.105, 130
